Knockaneden wind farm awards €9,000 to the local community

[caption id="attachment_4642" align="alignnone" width="1024"]Mainstream's Barry Nelson with the recipients of community funds Mainstream's Barry Nelson with the recipients of community funds[/caption] Knockaneden wind farm, owned by Caherciveen Wind Ltd and operated by Mainstream Renewable Power, has awarded €9,000 to local community initiatives in the second year of its annual community fund awards. The wind farm which is located in the townland of Knockaneden, Co. Kerry is now in its third year of operation. The community fund programme awards €1,000 per megawatt to the local community for each year it is in operation. Community-based initiatives are invited to apply for the funding each year and the monies are awarded based on criteria such as proximity to the wind farm, sustainability and the benefits the initiative will bring to the community. Mainstream's Barry Nelson with the recipients of community funds An event was held in the Dromid Community Development Centre for all recipients of awards on Friday, 20 February 2015. Speaking at the award of the funding Mary Sheehan of Dromid Pearse GAA Club said “Our GAA Club is the life line of our local Community and this funding will help us prepare the pitch for the playing season. It is very much appreciated in current times where fundraising in rural areas is difficult.” Commenting on behalf of Caherciveen Wind Limited, Mainstream Renewable Power’s Barry Nelson said “Community funds like this are just one of the benefits flowing to communities which host wind farms. We are delighted that the wind farm can support all of these local and worthwhile initiatives such as Éigse na Brideóige, Coars National School and Dromid Community Care.” The following groups and organisations received funds: 1.
