WELCOME TO THE CAPACITY BUILDING FOR OFFSHORE WIND POWER DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR 2022

 

Mainstream Renewable Power in association with the GWEC, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is delighted to bring this capacity building for offshore wind seminar to Province representatives. The purpose of the seminar is to provide insights and training around topics such as the process and steps involved in developing offshore wind projects, the environmental and social impact considerations, financing of large-scale infrastructure projects and much more.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES AND PRESENTATION LINKS

TU NGUYEN – MAINSTREAM RENEWABLE POWER

Tu Nguyen has over twenty years’ experience in the shipping, oil and gas and renewable energy industries. In his last couple of years, Tu had oriented himself towards the Renewable Energy sector by taking lessons on solar and wind-related courses with Renewables Academy (Berlin), as well as networking in the industry.

He has full time engaged with Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy in 2018 as a Business Development Manager in the Vietnamese market and has successfully delivered two solar PV projects with a combined capacity of 272 MW.

Tu Nguyen commenced with Mainstream Vietnam in 2020 as Development Manager and has since been promoted to Solar PV Portfolio Director in 2021.

Tu likes to spend his free time reading, playing sport, and playing guitar.

ADAM BRUCE – MAINSTREAM RENEWABLE POWER

Adam leads a team responsible for sustainability, for managing political and regulatory risk, and for the company’s brand reputation and communications. He joined Mainstream in 2008 following the £1.8bn sale of Airtricity, where he was UK Chief Executive. He is a member of the company’s leadership team.

Adam is Vice-Chair of the Global Wind Energy Council and sits on the Coalition for Action Steering Board of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). He was appointed by the Scottish and UK governments as the first chairman of the Offshore Wind Programme Board, is a former chairman of RenewableUK and a former vice-chairman of WindEurope. He has previously served on the advisory board of RE100.

Adam sits on the Development Board of Oxford University’s Maths, Physics and Life Sciences Division. He is a Trustee of the National Museums of Scotland. He read history at Balliol College, Oxford and law at Edinburgh University.

BUI VINH THANG – GWEC

Bui Vinh Thang is the Vietnam’s Country Director of GWEC. He has 7 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, with expertise in business development and external relations.
He has worked at many international companies in the field of renewable energy such as Mainstream Renewable Power or Ecoplexus. He holds a master’s degree in Supply chain management from UCD Smurfit, Ireland.

AMBASSADOR HILDE SOLBAKKEN – EMBASSY OF NORWAY

Mrs Hilde Solbakken has been working in the Norwegian Foreign Service since 1997, covering a wide range of Norwegian foreign policy priorities. She is currently Norway’s Ambassador to Vietnam and Laos. From 2020 to 2022 she served as Ambassador of Norway to Myanmar. Mrs Solbakken was Deputy Head of Mission at Norway’s Embassy in Jakarta 2014-2018, and has previously served in Nairobi, New York, Washington DC and Amman.

While based in Norway, Mrs Solbakken has worked i.a. on peace and reconciliation, sustainable use and protection of oceans, and been responsible for the Americas, Africa and Asia in the Office of the Prime Minister.

Ambassador Solbakken holds a master’s degree from London School of Economics. She is married and has one daughter.

BERNARD CASEY – MAINSTREAM RENEWABLE POWER

Bernard was appointed Chief Operating Officer, APAC in June 2021 and holds responsibility for the company’s health and safety, project development, construction and operational activities in the region.

He retains the role of Development Director – Vietnam, with overall responsibility for the development of the 1,400 MW Phu Cuong offshore wind farm, working closely with Mainstream’s joint venture partner for the project, the Phu Cuong Group.

Bernard graduated from University College Dublin with a first-class honours degree in civil engineering and has a master’s degree at Imperial College, London in Soil Mechanics and Engineering Seismology. He is a former Chairman of the Geotechnical Society of Ireland.

NGUYỄN HOÀNG GIANG – MAINSTREAM RENEWABLE POWER

As an enthusiastic advocate for renewable energy, Giang recently joined Mainstream Renewable Power Vietnam as Head of Project Development.

Mr. Giang has held many senior management positions at large corporations such as Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric, and has more than twenty years of experience in the electrical industry..

LE MINH HUONG – IFC WORLD BANK

Minh Huong Le is IFC’s Social Specialist based in Hanoi. Minh Huong has over 10 years’ experience in resettlement planning, indigenous people’s engagement planning, undertaking socioeconomic and health impact assessments, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring and evaluating E&S performance. Her sectoral experience infrastructure, energy, urban development, health and agriculture.

DAVID NICHOLSON – IFC WORLD BANK

David Nicholson is IFC’s Asian Pacific Biodiversity Specialist based in Bangkok. He has over 20 years’ experience in the public and private sectors. He has worked on renewable energy, oil and gas, extractive industry and transport related infrastructure with a particular focus on biodiversity assessment and management. He has worked on solar and wind projects as well as related infrastructure projects within Vietnam.

TRAN MINH HUE – MINISTRY OF PLANNING AND INVESTMENT

Ms. Tran Minh Hue- Senior Official, Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment (DSENRE), Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI)

Ms. Hue is the technical focal point for the formulation of Vietnam National Green Growth Strategy. She is dedicated to green finance as the focal point of Climate Finance Task Force (CFTF) formulated by Minister of Planning and Investment since 2012. She has over 16 years of experience in policy development for sustainable development, green growth and environment management. She is also a part of Vietnamese delegation’s efforts to reach Glasgow Agreement in COP26.

Ms. Hue hold a Master-degree on environmental management in University of Queensland, Australia. She is very active in negotiation with development partners for ODA & climate finance activities.

BRIAN QUAN MINH – MAINSTREAM RENEWABLE POWER

Brian Quan Minh is currently the Offshore Wind Project Manager of Mainstream Renewable Power Vietnam. He has been employed by Mainstream since 2019 and currently he is taking main responsibility on managing Offshore Wind portfolio projects in Vietnam market which is around 1.9 GW capacity.

Since 2017, Brian has been moved from Oil and Gas sectors in which he joined into several greenfield developments and participated in many offshore installation campaigns to Renewable sector. Before Mainstream, Brian took several key roles on Project development and execution in a local Developer and an International Consultant Engineering company which is also specialized in Solar and Wind development project.

He has Master of Business Administration specialized in Project Management and attend PMP class which highlighted on Offshore Contract Management. He love reading, traveling, and road-trip driving.

NGUYEN VAN ANH – DIRECTOR, CHIASE

Mr Nguyen Van Anh is Director of CHIASE, Centre of Help for Indigenous Value promotion and Sustainable Environment.

Before, he has worked as Program Director of CARE International in Vietnam, Senior Technical Advisor of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

He has more than 20 years experiences in development work. This includes large experiences in various areas such as agriculture, forest, natural resource management, Social and Environment Impact Assessment, policy analysis and development.

NGUYEN ANH DUNG – PTSC

Nguyen Anh Dung has 21 years of experience in EPCI Projects for the Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind Industries. As a Deputy Director in charge of engineering, product operation, and the offshore wind sector in PTSC M&C, he has dedicated his efforts to developing a great in-house engineering team and a local supply chain for Company’s projects as of now and for the offshore wind industry in the coming time.

EDUARDO KARLIN – MAINSTREAM RENEWABLE POWER

Eduardo joined the Asia Pacific team in 2020 and took up his current role, with responsibility for Mainstream’s business development and expansion in the region, in June 2021.

He has twelve years of experience in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on business development and project finance transactions in emerging markets. To date, he has closed more than 4,000 MW (gross), with cumulative deal values in excess of USD 1 billion in South America, Southern Africa and Southeast Asia.

Eduardo holds a BSc in International Economics from Universita’ Bocconi (Italy), an MA in International Studies from the University of Vienna (Austria) and is a fluent in English, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and French.
