Community members cheer opening of clubhouse behind them

Members of the Cufeo commune, which neighbours our 307 MW Caman Wind Farm project, celebrate the opening of new changing room facilities at their clubhouse

A community centre for sporting and social activities has been upgraded with the support of a neighbouring Mainstream project in southern Chile.

Members of Peñarol Sports Club and the Neighbourhood Association of Cufeo Oriente gathered with staff from our Caman Wind Farm and local authority representatives to cut the ribbon on new changing rooms, showers and toilets at their clubhouse last month.

The construction of the facilities, which will benefit some 200 local people who use the centre for meetings, events and prize-giving ceremonies, was funded by Mainstream as part of a collaboration agreement signed with the two organisations last year.

It is hoped that they will promote activities like the commune championships, which attracts more than 100 amateur atheletes from across the local area.

Speaking at the opening of the changing rooms, Irene Barría, President of the Neighbourhood Association of Cufeo Oriente, said: “We first met with Mainstream seven years ago. Over the years they have always kept us informed about their projects and we have always had a good relationship with them because they are transparent with the neighbourhood association.”

Mainstream’s economic development programme in the Los Ríos region has included a series of infrastructural improvement initiatives to improve access to basic services such as electricity and water and to stimulate local development.
