Mainstream works with The Foundation for Alcohol Related Research (FARR) to raise concern around Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
South Africa has the highest reported Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) prevalance rate in the world, with the highest rate recorded in De Aar, Northern Cape. FARR was the first organisation in South Africa to raise concern about FAS and to undertake community research, prevention and management programmes. Mainstream provided funding during 2011 and 2012 to this cause so that FARR could continue their valuable work with mothers to reduce FAS through education, early childhood development, feeding of affected children and ongoing care programmes. Aswell as providing funding, Mainstream also provided sponsorship for the 350km walk from DeAar to Kimberley to raise awareness for FAS.
