Overview
The 50 MW Droogfontein solar park was submitted into Round 1 of the South African Government’s Renewable Energy Procurement Programme as part of a consortium.
It was awarded preferred bidder status by the Department under the programme and reached commercial operation date in 06 April, 2014.
The project is located in the Northern Cape and supplies the Eskom gridline with 85,458 MWh per year – enough electricity to meet the needs of 20,000 average South African households. Through enterprise development, the creation of procurement and employment opportunities and the development of a local community trust, the solar park has invested in the communities in its vicinity. The solar park is owned by a consortium including; Globeleq, Thebe Investment Corp., Enzani Technologies, Usizo Engineering and Droogfontein Communal Property Association.
