Mainstream picked up two awards in this year’s Infrastructure Investor Annual Awards, for the sale of the Lekela Power platform in 2023.

Established by Mainstream as a joint venture with Actis in 2015 to deliver clean, reliable energy across Africa, Lekela became the continent’s largest pure-play renewable energy Independent Power Producer. It is now powering some 3 million African households.

Mainstream won awards in two categories for the deal:

  • Deal of the Year, Middle East & Africa
  • Energy Transition Deal of the Year, Middle East & Africa.

“These two awards are recognition of the vision and hard work of the Mainstream team, delivering and operating more than 1GW in some of the world’s more challenging markets is testament to our tenacity, knowhow and expertise. We are looking forward to expanding our footprint in especially South Africa through new routes to market."

  • Five operational wind farms in South Africa (624 MW)
  • One operational wind farm in Egypt (252 MW)
