Overview

Mainstream won the rights to develop the 450MW site located in Scottish Territorial Waters in 2010 through a competitive bidding process with The Crown Estate.  In May 2018, Mainstream sold the Neart na Gaoithe Offshore wind farm to EDF Group.

With a background in offshore development, the team progressed the project through key milestones including onshore and offshore consent. An in-depth programme was also rolled-out by the development team to engage with the local communities to inform about the development. 

Project Milestones:

During the project development stage a number of milestones were reached:

  • 2015/ UK Government awards Mainstream a Contract for Difference.
  • 2014/ Granted offshore consent by the Scottish Government to build 450 MW offshore wind farm.
  • 2014/ New floating offshore wind measurement device completes validation.
  • 2013/ Receives onshore planning consent for Neart project.
  • 2013/ Receives Contract for Difference from the Deparment of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
  • 2011/ Signs Agreement for Lease with The Crown Estate.
  • 2009/ Awarded offshore wind site in Scottish Waters from The Crown Estate.
