Sponsorship helps Eliza realise sporting dream
Noupoort Wind Farm was proud to support young netball talent Eliza Steenkamp when she was selected for the Northern Cape Under-12s Diamonds team.
The Eurekaville Intermediary School pupil joined the team for a tournament in Boksburg, near Johannesburg, during the June holidays.
And with the wind farm sponsorship looking after her transport, accommodation and team uniform, Eliza was able to put her full focus into the games.
The team won all but three of their matches, propelling them in the Regional’s top 20. But it wasn’t just the winning that counted for Eliza.
She said. “I thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and overall experience. Not only did our team play well, but we got to make new friends and strengthen our team spirit.”
Noupoort Economic Development Manager Sandisiwe Mntonintshi expressed her delight over the wind farm’s latest sports funding initiative.
She said: “Well done to Eliza and the Diamonds team, we are so pleased that she had a fantastic experience and got to fulfil her sporting dream.
“Sport is the soul of this community, it is cohesive and has a far-reaching, positive bearing that not only benefits participants, but their families and schools too”.
Social studies in South Africa and across the globe have shown participation in sports improves educational attainment and attendance, as well as increasing fitness and general well-being – all things that are important in a community such as Noupoort.
