Summary of Role:

The candidate will take responsibility for providing GIS support to Project Managers, Development Managers and Engineering Team members. This entails sourcing and managing GIS data, developing maps, providing input into initial site identification; and researching & providing support on responses to consenting processes & environmental, economic, regulatory and policy issues.

What you will do?

  • Provide GIS support services and provide spatial information to the Development Teams to ensure the team achieves its objectives in a timely manner.
  • Proactively support the Project, Development & Engineering Managers in the development of energy projects throughout the entire project cycle from inception to construction.
  • Ensure Development Managers have timely, efficient and effective technical and administrative project support.
  • Provide support and input on information management, communication and research in areas as they arise.
  • Analyze external consultant topographical and other GIS related data and to collate this information with other outside sources to provide accurate project information.
  • Provide preliminary electrical, building & substation/project layout drawings for the Development & Engineering Teams when requested in a timely fashion.
  • Source GIS data and update GIS data sets.
  • Compile maps, build & manage shapefiles/geodatabases.
  • Create/digitize data, geoprocessing (buffer, clip, etc.) timeously.
  • Provide ongoing innovations for a more effective GIS Team input.
  • Assist the Project, Engineering & Development Managers on the entire wind/solar/hybrid project cycle, from prospecting potential wind/solar/hybrid project sites to project completion.
  • Maintain the project portfolio data set for wind/solar/hybrid projects under development.
  • Assist in the development and management of the project communications plan (e.g. developing the quarterly newsletter) and update these as required.
  • Participate in the permitting and approvals, engineering, design and construction review processes.
  • Advise on ideal wind/solar/hybrid project site layouts in coordination with the Energy Analysis & Engineering Teams.
  • Deliver technical presentations within the company on the latest software, hardware and onsite mapping solutions/approaches on the global market.
  • Be involved in ongoing research on new GIS approaches in the market.
  • Maintain a positive working attitude to create a work environment conducive to high morale, creativity, and teamwork.
  • Participate in regular project meetings, project planning discussions and conference calls with internal & external teams.

What we require?

  • Degree in Geographic Information Systems; Business, Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical), Geographic Sciences or Energy studies.
  • Experience working with the following ESRI products: (ESRI) ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server (web application development), and/or SDE for SQL Server, AutoCAD, PVcase, PVsyst, etc.
  • Formal training in the above software programs an advantage.
  • Experience of working on environmental assessments, commercial project development or any aspect of power generation development projects is considered an advantage.
  • Candidate should have good English written & oral communications skills and be adept at communicating with various people.
  • Ability to use Microsoft software e.g. AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Outlook is considered essential.
  • Ability to use specialist software packages e.g. GIS, MS Project, SharePoint is a strong recommendation.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, enthusiastic and confident, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • High levels of persistence and tenacity to ensure projects are completed on time.
