Mainstream Renewable Power is a renewable energy development company with operations in North America, South America, Mexico, South Africa and Ireland. Our core business is to develop, build and operate renewable energy plants thereby helping to build a sustainable future – globally and locally. We are seeking skilled, experienced and motivated individuals to join our Development Team in Chile, and to lead development of wind and solar energy projects.

Summary of Role

The Development Portfolio Manager is responsible for implementing the strategy for the Chile Development business with the main focus being on delivering the right wind and solar projects to fully consented stage so that they can be taken through financial close and into construction and operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the identification, acquisition, progression and consenting of wind and solar energy sites through all stages of development including:
    • The identification, assessment and selection of potential wind and PV solar sites
    • Management of the complete wind and solar development process, including land leases, mining rights, energy analysis, GIS analysis, environmental studies, permitting, grid interconnection and building community support
    • Selection and management of consultants to assist in the above areas
    • Interacting with permitting stakeholders at local, provincial and national levels
    • Interaction with the relevant in-house teams: energy analysis, engineering, construction, finance, corporate affairs, corporate finance, management
  • Add new wind and solar projects to the pipeline in Chile
  • Deliver fully consented wind and solar projects in Chile as per agreed targets
  • Performance reporting on progress in front of Chile Development Business targets
  • Ensuring effective risk management is in place across group of projects
  • Controlling group of projects budget and schedule

For the above you will need to:

  • Liaise and cooperate with other functional and regional teams
  • Engaging and managing technical and engineering consultants
  • Define and coordinate the preliminary engineering, environmental licenses and grid connection processes during development and preconstruction phase
  • Liaise and cooperate with external parties – banks, independent engineers, contractors, authorities, etc.
  • Significant autonomy in work, but a strong reporting and approval process using Mainstream’s procedures and processes (based on PMI® PMBOK®)
  • Interaction with the relevant in-house teams – Solar & Wind analysis, GIS, engineering, Grid connection, environmental, permits and construction
  • Participate in company knowledge sharing groups which focus on sharing of expertise globally

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Engineering (electrical or civil) with a minimum of 10 years experience
  • Knowledge of the Chilean renewables market specifically:
    • The Chilean energy sector and policies
    • Chilean environmental legislation
    • Legal terms of industry standard land agreements (option, lease, wayleave)
  • Experience working with key Chilean solar and wind stakeholders:
    • Grid owners
    • Grid operators (e.g. CDEC SIC and SING) and regulators
    • Industry associations
    • Developers currently active in the Chile market (as competitors, acquisition targets)
  • Procurement and contract administration experience is required. The successful candidate will be required to procure services, equipment and works from a selection of vendors, execute contracts with these vendors and then administer and close out these contracts.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or a Chartered Engineer (CEng)
  • Managing project development and construction experience in power generation industry. Experience in renewables is an advantage
  • Strong project management skill set required including contract management, contract administration, scheduling, planning, financial control and management
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Candidates should be comfortable presenting to management at all levels
  • Candidates should be capable of managing internal and external resources
  • Ability to use Microsoft software as well as specialist software packages such as AutoCAD, MS Project and SharePoint
  • Fluency in English & Spanish
  • Certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) is an advantage
