Our efforts are guided by the Safety and CSR Committee (SCSR) that reports to the board on our performance against social and environmental Key Performance Indicators. The SCSR committee is also tasked with monitoring environmental, social or governance risks and opportunities and, where appropriate, escalating these to the board.
The initial scope of work by the Committee focused on working closely with the Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) in 2016 to define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure our actions. The focus of the KPIs was to ensure we live within our corporate values, comply with the spirit of the law and uphold ethical and internationally recognised standards across all our operations.
A second scope of work unertaken by the Committee focused on submitting a detailed response to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for 2017 and 2018. CDP measures companies across the world on their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint.
For the reporting year, 2018, we were delighted to be awarded Grade A- Leadership status in the Climate sector.
Our mission is simple; we’re going to rid the world of CO2 and save the planet. We see a future which is sustainable for all our grandchildren and their descendants. Eddie O'Connor, Executive Chairman
In recognition of our environmental, and social impacts caused by our everyday activities, we have chosen to publish our first standalone Sustainability Report on our activities in 2018.
Through regular engagement with our stakeholders – partners, contractors, employees, communities and the wider public - and by monitoring emerging issues of societal interest or concern, we can identify the issues that matter most and determine those that we are able to influence or to which we can make a positive contribution.
Through a workshop held in late 2018, the material issues were considered and aligned to the four pillars of our sustainability strategy; marketplace, workplace, environment and community to ensure that these issues are appropriately managed and reported on. They were also mapped to GRI reporting standards and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The 2018 Sustainability Report will be available in June 2019.
